Terex Utilities Z-45 insulated boom

US based vehicle mounted aerial lift manufacturer Terex Utilities has announced two new lifts and some new technology at a virtual event.

The new lifts include the 45ft Z-45 Substation Utility Boom (SUB), which is based on the Genie Z-45 XC self-propelled boom lift, but heavily modified for substation and insulated applications. It now features an insulated fibreglass articulating jib and levelling rods and a heavy duty fibreglass platform.

It is aimed at substation and other applications where an insulated device is needed, but where space is limited or jobs that require or benefit from being self-propelled. The Z-45 SUB offers a maximum working height of 15.8 metres, an outreach of 7.6 metres at an up and over height of seven metres with a 300kg unrestricted platform capacity. 453kg is possible at an outreach of just over six metres.

See the video below for more details:

The company also unveiled a new 16.2 metre Hi-Ranger TL48 articulated telescopic aerial device that is suitable for the new super duty chassis such as the Ford F600, International CV and Chevy 6500 chassis. The unit offers almost 10 metres of outreach with a 227kg platform capacity.

Among the new technology on display was a new easily installed HyPower hybrid power pack - the Viatec SmartPTO - with a brushless permanent magnet motor, lithium NMC batteries and no internal service parts. It can be topped up by the PTO or through a separate charger and allows the aerial lift to operate on electric power when on site, either with the engine on idle for extended cycles or with the truck engine off. It will be available for most Hi-Ranger aerial devices as well as Commander and General Digger Derricks.
