QuikDeck saves a month

The Sydney Harbour Bridge Authority has apparently saved over a month on recent repair and maintenance work by using QuickDeck platforms attached to the underside of the bridge some 55 metres over the water,

Instant Access Major Projects Division which specializes in Underbridge Access solutions put forward the proposal to lift pre-assembled modules manufactured from QuikDeck components into position.

The QuikDeck modules were assembled on the banks of Sydney Harbour then lifted by crane onto a barge.

The pre-assembled platform is raised in to position

The barge was positioned beneath the bridge and wire ropes were dropped and attached to the deck, which was then raised into position using two - three tonne heavy duty air winches.
Special Port Authority clearance was required and Water Police cleared the area whilst the platform was being raised.

The work platform was successfully raised into position and specially designed beam brackets and high tensile chain was used to secure the platform to the bridge.

Underbridge decks such as this have been used before but have been built up in situ, taking over a month to do so, with greater risk of an accident occurring during build up or dismantle.
