City Lifting buys at Bauma

Trevor Jepson and Bob Jones of City Lifting, the London (UK) based specialist tower and mobile crane rental company, spent several days at Bauma planning further crane acquisitions to expand the company’s fleet.

Purchases included the UNIC 706, the not so mini spider crane; the company will take delivery of the Bauma unit, the very first unit to be sold. The company already operates a growing fleet of tracked compact cranes which it rents on a contract lift basis.

Jepson and Jones told Vertikal.Net that one of the biggest applications for its min crane fleet was the placing of internal steelwork, often in shopping malls where the low ground bearing pressure and compact dimensions are attractive.

“A number of our customers need a larger crane for some of the bigger jobs, without loosing the advantages of relatively low weight and the ability to set up close the work” said Jepson, “The 706 will solve that problem and I think it will open up some new applications”

The two were also on the Tadano Faun stand where they placed an order for a 220 tonne ATF220G-5. They also ordered a 72 tonne counterweight trailer and were shopping for a suitable tractor unit.

Jepson said that the ATF220, which will be delivered in March 2008, is ideal for work within the city thanks to its shorter boom extension which can swing around within the set up width of the machine and which does not require a ladder to install the pins.
