JLG expands production

JLG is starting to manufacture some of its products at an Oshkosh facility in Jefferson City, Tennessee.

The company is leasing 5,500 square metres of space within the recently renovated 46,500 square metre Oshkosh Defence facility which is largely a fabrication shop. JLG is also adding further lines at its Bedford and McConnellsburg facilities in Pennsylvania as well as its plant in Leon, Mexico. The efforts are all aimed at increasing production of boom and scissor lifts, as well as both JLG and SkyTrak telehandlers in order to tackle its $3.6 billion backlog.

JLG is also stepping up its effort to improve digital automation and machine learning from design through manufacturing to its monitoring equipment through its working life. JLG anticipates customers eventually being able to track a machine from its order stage through the end of its lifecycle.

President Frank Nerenhausen said: “We have been pursuing a number of initiatives to establish a more agile and stable business model to support long-term, sustainable growth. The investment in additional manufacturing space and technology rich manufacturing lines is indicative of our commitment to supporting customer needs in today’s dynamic marketplace.”

“JLG is leaning in, looking at everything from how to optimise digital twins during the design/engineering process, to regionalising supply chains, to additive manufacturing, to the autonomous and semi-autonomous solutions required to assist a now five-generation workforce and reduce the load/gap caused by labour shortages.”

“Expanding and integrating new state of the art technologies into our plants will allow us to optimise operational capacity to better absorb peaks in demand, while improving worker safety and flow management. We are investing in the connected and autonomous solutions that will make it easier to do business with us. We are driven to provide the most holistic and transparent customer experience possible to enhance customer satisfaction and improve the value stream of JLG products well into the future.”
