Call for witnesses to Munich trade fair death

Munich police have appealed for anybody who saw a fatal accident that occurred during the set up of the bauma exhibition to contact them. The fatal accident took place on Tuesday April 17th at 17.39 hours.

According to the police report a 56 year old man from the Tirschenreuth area of Germany was crushed when a 3.65 tonne generator fell from the fork lift truck that was transporting it.

According to witnesses quoted in a Munich Fire Brigade report the accident happened as the dead man and a colleague were walking along a roadway on the eastern part of the Fair grounds.

The approaching fork lift stopped suddenly to avoid hitting them which caused the load to slide forward. Despite the rapid response of paramedics and the “Christoph 1” emergency response helicopter, the man died immediately from his severe head injuries. The Munich Fire Brigade removed about 400 litres of spilled diesel from the scene.

Several other serious accidents were reported to Vertikal by security staff during the exhibition set up period but we have been unable to confirm their veracity.

Anybody who saw the tragic accident above is requested to contact the Munich police on 0049 89 6216-3322.
