New Potain MCT 805

Potain has launched a new high capacity flat top tower crane, the MCT 805 which is to be manufactured at its plant in Zhangjiagang, China.

The new model will be built to meet international standards and market requirements, although it is primarily aimed at the Asia Pacific region and emerging markets. The new model is similar to the current MDT 809 - that it launched at Bauma 2019 - and is available in 32 and 40 tonne maximum capacity versions - the M32 and M40 - both of which offer a maximum jib length of 80 metres with a 7.5 tonne jib tip capacity.

The new crane has been designed for use with Potain’s reinforced K-mast tower with newly developed installation bases, including a new eight metre cross shaped base which is said to provide performance characteristics more commonly associated with a 10 metre base. Maximum free standing height is 80 metres,

The longest counter jib is 27.3 metres, which provides a 7.5 tonne jib tip capacity at an 80 metre radius. The maximum 32 tonne capacity of the M32 version is available at more than 22 metres, while the 40 tonnes on the M40 can be handled at 18.5 metres.

Frequency controlled hoists come in a number of variations including the 150HPL80 on the M32, which can lift 1.8 tonnes at 151 metres a minute, and the 270LVF100 Optima on the M40, which can lift 3.5 tonnes at 162 metres a minute. Maximum drum capacity on both the M32 and M40 is 1,063 metres with the larger hoist option. Customers can choose from a two fall configuration on the trolley for faster lifting, or four falls for heavy lifting.

The counterweight installation

The MCT 805 top can be transported in either 10 or 11 loads depending on how the crane is being shipped. All jib sections fit inside a standard container, thanks to the jib dimensions of 1.55 metres wide and less than 2.5 metres high. The company says that while it is an 800 tonne/metre crane it transports and can be erected as easily as 450 tonne/metre cranes and set up twice as fast and with less space than conventional 40 tonne tower cranes. For example, it can be assembled to a 50 metre lifting height and full 80 metre jib in less than three days.

The eight metre base comprises a main girder and two half cross girders that connect with pins. Mast and jib section lengths have also been designed to match customer requirements, including the 10 metre base mast, five metre tower sections and 3.33 metre fine tuning elements.

Thibaut Le Besnerais, product manager for tower cranes at Potain Manitowoc said: “The advantages of fast assembly and compact design is really driving the growth in demand for topless cranes, but the growing popularity of modular construction methods is also creating greater need for higher-capacity models. So, the early success of the MDT 809 made it apparent that other regions served by our Zhangjiagang factory would also enjoy the benefits of its innovations, making the decision to launch the MCT 805 relatively easy. But those innovations don’t stop at performance, transport, and assembly. For instance, there are several new features that simplify servicing, such as the jib design that aids access to key crane components.”

The MCT 805 will be available in China and the rest of Asia, Australia and New Zealand, the Middle East, Africa, and South American markets.

Manufactured in China?
Why not Russia?
I think that they need to revisit this decision urgently!
