David Semple, Manitowoc Middle East sales director and general manager, said the new building is a sign of the company’s commitment in the region.

“The operations here have quickly evolved from several ‘one-man’ outfits to a central office with over 30 employees,” he said. “By combining these resources we are able to more effectively and efficiently serve our customers throughout the region.”

The Dubai facility will cover 20 countries including the Gulf region, Turkey and most central Asian republics.

Phillipe Cohet, executive vice president, speaking at the event said “MCG is a global company with a strong commitment to local presence. We are consolidating our position to increase resources available to customers. I believe our growth puts us in a position of strength to tackle increasing demand and lead the way in this market.”

Manitowoc also hopes to expand its crawler crane business in the Middle East and will run a crawler refurbishment program from the facility. This is part of a longer term strategy to establish a Manitowoc crawler crane ‘centre of excellence’ for its EnCore programme, that includes the supply of new, remanufactured, repaired or rebuilt parts for an existing crane.
