SED update

On Tuesday next week the UK’s largest construction equipment show, SED opens its gates with over 20,000 visitors expected over the three days.

There are plenty of new access, telehandler and small crane products on show, especially if you were not able to make it to Bauma. The following is a brief update on the SED preview that carried in the May issue of Cranes&Access.

Chieftain to launch piggy back lift:
Chieftain, is said to be unveiling a truck mounted (piggy back) fork truck to go head to head with Hiab’s Moffett.

Versalift shuttles:
Versalift has organised as series of classic double decker shuttle busses to take interested visitors to its factory some seven miles away. The company is hosting an open day on site so customers can see the investment that it has and is putting into its UK facility.

Maeda out in force:
While we did include compact crane producer Maeda in our guide it was a late entry due to a glitch in the SED web directory. European distributor Kranlyft will be out in force with a range of cranes, including the recently launched 405, its largest to date.

Bluelift-SkyKing:
Bluelift will be exhibited on the SkyKing stand and not Allan Access, the manufacturer has confirmed that it has officially appointed Market Harborough based SkyKing as its UK distributor.

Merlo Platform will not make it:
Merlo was hoping to have shown one of its new MRP self propelled road-going boom lifts. However the machines reception at Bauma was so positive, that the company is pressing on with testing and development. Taking a machine out of that programme for two weeks would have made a significant dent in that programme.

Arcomet booth:
Dirk Theyskens president of Arcomet was adamant after Bauma that the vintage booth it used at Bauma, a 1930’s Belgian mobile dancing hall, would be at SED. However the company has not managed to obtain the extra space or source the catering back up, so it will not be there this year.


Third entrance gate:
As a further step to avoid the horrendous traffic jams of last year, the organisers have agreed to open a third gate into the showground which will be used by exhibitors, thus taking pressure off of the other two, this in addition to free parking.
