Fatal entrapment incident in Pamplona

A man has died following an entrapment/crushing incident while using an aerial work platform at a car dealership in the Burlada suburb of Pamplona, northern Spain. We have received conflicting reports of the type of lift involved, so are unable to confirm if it was a boom or a scissor lift - there is agreement however that it was self-propelled.

We understand that the man, Vadim Papusa, 22, from Romania was working for a sub-contractor on the renovation of the showrooms of Automóviles Torregrosa on Friday May 12th when he became trapped against an overhead obstruction - such as beam.

The emergency services arrived on the scene and rushed him to hospital with serious chest trauma, sadly he passed away a week later from complications arising from his injuries. The local police and safety authorities have been investigating the circumstances, while the incident also sparked demonstrations from the local union regarding the number of work place incidents that have occurred so far this year, which they are blaming on a disregard for the safety rules by local employers.

We will of course update this item as and when we learn more.
