Man rescued after fall

A 35 year old man was subject to a dramatic rescue yesterday in Geelong near Melbourne Australia. The man was injured after he slipped as he was climbing a ladder on a scaffold inside a new bitumen storage silo.

The man is lifted clear of the silo

The man struck his back as he fell and also hit another man ascending the ladder before landing on a scaffold platform. He suffered suspected fractures of a rib, ankle and arm.

The new tanks are being built by local engineering firm E. Brockman and Son at the Terminal’s Corio storage facility in Geelong.

The emergency services arrived with an aerial lift from
Geelong’s ‘high angle rescue team’ which they used to lift the man out of the silo after having attached him to a rescue stretcher.

WorkCover inspectors also attended the incident.

Brockman's managing director Don Forbes said the firm had built hundreds of similar storage tanks and that it was considered a high risk industry.
