223ft boom ships Friday

Chinese manufacturer XCMG plans to ship the first batch of its 223ft XGS70K telescopic boom lifts, the world's largest, to Europe on Friday. This is several months early than predicted in our Sneak Preview report in May.

The first units will board Ro/Ro vessels in Shanghai on September 1st and are due to arrive in Bristol or Felixstowe on November 6th. The company says that a further 24 units are scheduled to be manufactured and shipped to Europe between now and mid-2024. It adds that over half of them have already been sold. We are also aware that two further units will shortly ship to India.
The XGS70K has completed its test programme and is ready to ship

The XGS70K has a five section telescopic boom, topped by a three section jib with 131 degrees of articulation, providing a working height of just under 70 metres - 69.6 metres to be exact - and a maximum outreach of 32.5 metres with 230kg in the platform. The maximum platform capacity is 460kg at an outreach of 27 metres, while 300kg is possible at just under 30 metres.

The machine has an overall retracted width of just under 2.5 metres, extending to 5.5 metres when working on site. The wheelbase retracted is 5.89 metres, dropping to 5.1 when extended. The overall stowed height is 3.1 metres, while the overall length when stowed for transport is 16 metres. Total weight is 35.4 tonnes - considerably more than the planned 30 tonnes mentioned earlier this year.

hairy
Manufacturers should consider developing dual wheel versions for these largest rigs. Which would ease otherwise hefty ground pressure per wheel.
