250 tonner for South Korea

South Korean construction company Bong-Hwang has taken delivery of a 250 tonne Grove GMK 5250XL-1 All Terrain crane.

The five axle crane features an eight section 78.5 metre main boom topped by an 18 metre bi-fold swingaway extension that can be extended to 34 metres with additional inserts. Features include variable outrigger setup with automatic outrigger selection and all-wheel steer. It was also ordered with a boom removal kit and removable self-rigging auxiliary hoist.
The handover

The new crane went straight to work setting three tonne precast concrete slabs at a new chemical plant being built for Han-Hwa in Eumseong, about 100 kilometres southeast of Seoul.

Bong-Hwang chief executive Lee Guan-Hwi said: “Chemical plants like this one typically have very narrow roads, making a compact crane that can match or outperform larger models the only solution for this project.”

“Removing the need to repeatedly install or remove counterweight also saves us a lot of valuable time and the choice of five outrigger positions makes setup in tight spaces quicker and easier. Working at a 30 metre radius, we extend the boom to 70 metres, and then the three tonne concrete slabs can be easily handled. We expect our new GMK5250XL-1 will be kept incredibly busy over the next few years but we’re definitely not asking too much of it.”

Bong-Hwang was established in 2012 with a focus on industrial plant construction and renovation projects for electronics and chemical businesses in the Eumseong region. The new crane is the second Grove in the company’s fleet, the other being a 120.
