Hiab depot in East Anglia

Hiab has opened a new depot in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, to provide crane mounting, general servicing and sales support for its customers in East Anglia.

The move follows the bankruptcy and liquidation of Hiab’s local dealer, Lorry Loaders Ltd in June. The new depot, a first for Hiab is aimed purely at filling the customer support gap.

Hiab suggests that this is a response to a particular situation and not a new distribution policy; it will continue to use its national network of independent agents in other parts of the country.

Ismo Leppanen, managing director of Hiab UK said: “When Lorry Loaders went into receivership we took the decision to lease their old premises, purchase the service vans and tools and re-employ the same staff to ensure that our customers continued to receive technical support and service.

“Although this is a new venture for Hiab it was important that none of our customers was let down by the closure and I am glad to say that this move has ensured continuity.”

There are currently 11 employed at the Wisbech depot which is headed up by Nathan Cockman, who will be responsible for growing the business. There are also plans to increase staff levels by a further two in the next few months.
