Barnhart goes international

US based Barnhart Crane and Rigging has acquired Canada’s NCSG Crane & Heavy Haul, the company’s first international acquisition and its largest to date.

Memphis, Tennessee, based Barnhart will employ all 400 NCSG employees working at eight locations across western Canada with branches in Edmonton, Bonnyville, Calgary, Fort McMurray and Grande Prairie in Alberta, Fort St. John and Terrace in British Columbia and Regina, Saskatchewan.

Chief executive, Alan Barnhart said: “The acquisition of NCSG literally takes us into new territory. The decision to become an international company was not made lightly, but NCSG's reputation and dominant market share ensure Barnhart's position as one of the leading crane, rigging, and logistics companies in North America.”

NCSG president Heather MacCallum said: "We are pleased to join the Barnhart family. Our goal has been to serve as the premier supplier in Western Canada's crane and heavy haul sector by providing best-in-class equipment, personnel, an award-winning safety program, and operational best practices."

Founded in 1987, since 2014 NCSG has been majority owned by two private equity firms, Calgary based TriWest Capital Partners and the Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund, while the previous owner Seattle based Northwest Capital Appreciation remained a significant investor.

Based in Memphis, Tennessee, Barnhart now operates from a network of nearly 60 locations providing operated crane rental, rigging services, outage planning, specialised solutions for component replacement, industrial storage and national project logistics.
