Man injured as telehandler topples

A man was injured when the tlehandler he was operating toppled over onto a busy road near a building site in Sutton Coldfield yesterday afternoon.

Details are still sketchy, but emergency crews said the handler was found on its side in Rectory Road, it had narrowly missed passing traffic when it fell over. It had been lifting a canopy to a height of six metres when it fell.

The man, in his 40s, was found unconscious at the site by ambulance crews and had suffered a head injury. He was later taken by air ambulance to the Good Hope Hospital.

An investigation is under way to find out what happened.

UPDATE
Further details indicate the telehandler had its boom extended to 12 metres and was lifting a load to a height of 6metres.
Emergency services had to cut the boom into three pieces in order to remove it.
