First 70m Multitel hybrid

Dutch crane and aerial lift rental company Boer has taken the first 70 metre Multitel MJ700 Hybrid truck mounted lift.
The new Multitel MJ700

The new machine, Multitel’s largest ‘green’ model, arrived with Boer a few days ago, it is mounted on a five axle – 10x4- Volvo FM500 truck chassis, and offers a maximum working height of 70.2 metres, and up to 36 metres of outreach with 120kg in the platform, 280kg at 33.5 metres, 400kg at 31.3 metres, or 28.5 metres, with the maximum platform capacity of 600kg available at 28.5 metres outreach. It also has around 29 metres of outreach at an up & over height of 48 metres. All thanks to a six section main boom, long three section top boom/jib topped by an articulating jib.
The new machine has a six section boom, three section jib/top boom and articulated jib

Up & over clearance is 48 metres

The unit also features variable outrigger set up and monitoring making it useable in confined spaces, albeit with a reduced working envelope.

The new hybrid power pack includes two 80V - 210Ah lithium batteries with a total of around 33Kwh of power, driving an 80V/20kw electric motor, coupled to a hydraulic pump. The machine has enough battery power to fully extend the boom from its stowed position to the full 70 metres at least four times. When connected to a 400V network, a full recharge takes four hours, or five hours with the on-board diesel generator. The unit can also be operated while plugged in and can also operate as normal diesel machine. Either mode can be selected from either the ground controls or those in the basket.
The MJ700 can complete at least four full cycles to full height on a single charge

A hybrid system diagnostic screen can be used to check the battery charge, the current usage in real time, the operating temperature of the batteries and inverter, and other parameters.

Boer was established by Johannes Albert Boer Sr in 1937 as an agricultural contractor mowing grass and grass pits, dredging ditches and baling hay. His three sons grew up in the company and an excavator was soon followed by a crane converted into a pile driver. Rough Terrain cranes arrived in the 1990s along with aerial work platforms.

Based in Meerkerk (halfway between Utrecht and Dordrecht) the company is now managed by a third generation of the family, the company already runs electric powered crawler and foundation cranes, along with Spierings hybrid mobile self-erecting tower cranes. The company states that 29 municipalities in the Netherlands have already introduced ‘zero emission’ zones. Thus, the need to find solutions. It also already has Multitel MJ525 and a J335 AL in its fleet, which also includes telescopic cranes up to 400 tonnes, crawler cranes to 160 tonnes, and truck mounted lifts up to 70 metres.
