Spanish port operator Boluda Maritime Terminals has ordered four Konecranes hybrid RTG (Rubber Tyred Gantry) cranes for its container terminal in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands.
The new cranes - which will join two existing Konecrane RTGs delivered in 2007 – will be equipped with hybrid power packs that combine a diesel engine and battery pack. They will also include Konecranes’ Active Load Control system, which eliminates container sway, as well as the Autosteering feature, which keeps the crane on a straight, pre-programmed drive path.
Boluda chief executive, Gorka Zabala said: "We chose Konecranes because of their proven track record in hybrid RTGs. These cranes will help us improve our operational efficiency while reducing our environmental impact. We look forward to receiving the equipment and putting it into operation."
Darryn Scheepers Konecranes sakes manager added: "We are delighted to receive this order from Boluda Maritime Terminals. This deal shows the value that customers place in our hybrid technology and our ability to help them increase their operational efficiency while reducing their environmental footprint."
With its headquarters in Valencia, Boluda Maritime Terminals operates from seven maritime terminals along the Spanish coast, including Villagarcía, Sevilla, Santander, Lanzarote, Las Palmas, Tenerife, La Palma and Fuerteventura.
