Cadman Cranes claims net zero

UK crane rental company Cadman Cranes has achieved net zero status for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, covering direct operational emissions and purchased electricity, after announcing its net zero target in 2023

The company says that it offset 25 tonnes of CO2 last year through Ecologi projects, supporting fuel efficient cookstove manufacturing in Uganda and expects to reduce offsetting requirements to around 12 tonnes by end of the year through further operational improvements.

Scope 1 emissions include fuel use such as HVO, natural gas, refrigerants, diesel and petrol from company owned sources. Scope 2 covers indirect emissions from purchased electricity beyond the company's solar capabilities during winter periods.

Managing director Matthew Waddingham said: "This is a really important milestone for us, and we're incredibly proud of what we've achieved. We've put a lot of effort into reducing our CO2 to the lowest possible level before offsetting the small amount that remains. While we do have some reservations about offsetting, it allows us to support some vitally important projects that we genuinely believe in."
