Raimondi to acquire Terex cranes

Terex has signed a definitive agreement to sell its Tower and Rough Terrain Cranes businesses to Italian based UAE owned Raimondi Cranes.
The deal will include the two Italian production facilities – the Tower Cranes plant in Fontanafredda, and the Rough Terrain facility in Crespellano. It also includes the Terex North America Cranes service and support operation in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The sale is subject to government regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, but all being well it is expected to close before the end of the year.
Terex Chief executive Simon Meester said: "We are pleased to enter into this agreement with Raimondi, a manufacturer of cranes that is widely recognised for product innovation and customer service. We believe the Tower and Rough Terrain cranes businesses will benefit by becoming part of an Italian based, global specialty crane company."

"During the transition to Raimondi, our team is committed to servicing and supporting our customers seamlessly. Our crane team members in Italy have made substantial contributions throughout their years of service to the Company, and we thank them and wish them continued success in the future. Terex is working closely with Raimondi to support the team and manage the change with transparency and respect for everyone involved."

Raimondi chief executive Luigi Maggioni added: "This strategic acquisition represents a milestone in our journey to become a fully-fledged global lifting conglomerate. By integrating Terex's Tower and Rough Terrain cranes, we are creating synergies that enhance our ability to deliver a broader range of solutions, paving the way for sustainable, accelerated growth."

A Terex statement said: “This divestiture aligns with the company's strategic focus to reduce cyclicality while accelerating growth and further leveraging synergies across our three business segments: Materials Processing, Aerials, and Environmental Solutions. The agreement with Raimondi does not include Franna pick & carry cranes, which Terex will continue to manufacture at its Eagle Farm facility in Brisbane, Australia, and the Terex Hosur facility in India.

Vertikal Comment

The decision by Terex to quit the RT and Tower crane businesses is no surprise, its heart has not really been in it for some time.
The surprise was that Tadano did not include at least the tower crane business when it acquired Terex Demag crane business in 2019 but perhaps given the challenges that the deal has presented since then, it was a sensible move.

The Raimondi deal is interesting, quite how it will integrate the two tower crane operations remains to be seen, while the Rough Terrain business takes it into a completely new area. Given its Dubai based ownership and the current growth of the Middle East RT market, it could prove to be a very good deal indeed.

I imagine Manitowoc and Liebherr will be watching with interest.
