Car topples tower crane

A man died in Xewkija this weekend after his car hit a self erecting tower crane that was set up in the street. The crane came crashing down form a combination of the impact and the fact hit one of its outriggers out form under it..

The concrete counterweight blocks came crashing down on the car, a Mitsubishi Lancer, killing Sammy Spiteri, a 23-year-old from Xewkija, instantly. The rest of the crane came down in the street with part if it resting on a house.

The fallen crane and car

Local police say that the accident happened at around 4.45 a.m. and that there were no skid marks on the road, so it is not being ruled out that Spiteri may have died before he crashed into the crane or he fell asleep at the wheel.
