German rental company Gerken is expanding its recently launched crane rental business in the new year with the addition of new 250 tonne All Terrain cranes from Grove and its first mobile self-erecting tower cranes in the form of the five axle Liebherr MK 120-5.1.
The company purchased its first All Terrain – a four axle 70 tonne Tadano - last April. Since then, it has added 50, 80 and 100 tonne units, mostly from Tadano.

The latest model the 250 tonne The five axle Grove GMK5250XL-1 features an eight section 78.5 metre main boom topped by an 18 metre bi-fold swingaway extension that can be extended to 34 metres with additional inserts. Features include Grove’s Maxbase variable outrigger setup and all wheel steer. Power comes from a single HVO ready Stage V Mercedes diesel, which is said to offer a 30 percent reduction in fuel consumption.
The Liebherr MK 120-5.1 has a maximum capacity of eight tonnes with a 52 metre jib with a jib tip capacity of 2.1 tonnes and a maximum luffing angle of 40 degrees.
Managing director Manfred Drößer said: "We have made significant progress in the development of Gerken Cranes this year. With the arrival of these two new cranes in the first quarter, we will continue our growth trajectory through 2026. We remain committed to covering all possible lifting solutions with our rental fleet. The inquiries we have already received confirm that we have hit the mark with the newly ordered machines."
