UK rental company DM Cranes has added a fourth Liebherr MK 140-5.1 mobile self-erecting tower crane to its fleet.
The five axle crane can take its eight tonne maximum capacity to a radius of 12 metres and a hook height of 36 metres. With the jib in ‘trolley’ mode, the crane has a jib tip capacity of 1,900kg at 58.5 metres radius and a hook height of just under 40 metres. It can also be used in luffing mode with a range from 20 to 70 degrees to achieve a maximum hook height of 94.4 metres or a maximum radius of 65 metres with a 1,000kg on the hook.
The crane comes with Liebherr’s Trolley-Plus system, which increases capacities by almost 50 percent when operating with the jib at 15 or 45 degrees. DM Cranes took delivery of the UK’s first MK 140-5.1 in January 2024 and has since added a further three units, including this latest arrival.,
Romagnuolo said: “The MK 140-5.1 has proven to be an incredibly versatile addition to our fleet. We particularly like the flexibility of the luffing mode and the VarioBase system, which allow us to give our customers more options when operating in restrictive areas. With a fleet of 15 mobile tower cranes and the opening of our new depot in Bedford, the addition of this fourth MK 140-5.1 further strengthens our nationwide capability and reinforces our commitment to providing efficient, adaptable lifting solutions for our customers.’
Based in Goole, Yorkshire - halfway between Hull and Leeds, DM Cranes can trace its roots back to the 1990s when David Millington started a crane rental business, registered the name David Millington Folding Cranes Ltd in 2004, and David Millinton Crane hire in 2019. DM Cranes was incorporated in 2016, with Millington, Lorenzo Romagnuolo and two others - Daniel Russell and Christine Frazer all owning 25 percent of the equity.
Today, the company is not only one of the largest mobile self-erecting tower crane suppliers in the UK, with models from both Liebherr and Spierings, but it also runs a fleet of All Terrains up to the 700 tonne Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1.
