Mac launches

UK heavy lift specialist Liam McLoughlin has launched two new businesses, Mac Heavy Lift and Mac Projects.

Mac Heavy Lift was incorporated in May 2023 and began operating in a limited capacity earlier this year, but McLoughlin is now ready to focus fully on expanding its operations, initially in the UK & Ireland and then overseas. The other company - Mac Projects - was set up at around the same time and will trade as Mac Projects.

Mac Heavy Lift will offer feasibility studies, assurance and compliance auditing, as well as contracting for heavy lift and transport operations, including modular axles, SPMT, gantry and skid systems, along with mobile cranes - both crawler and All Terrain. It is currently involved in consultancy projects in Qatar and will manage tendering and contract processes for a Garden State Energy Project in New Jersey, USA.

Meanwhile, Mac Projects will offer lifting, logistics and engineered project services for transformer manufacturers, distribution network operators, with a focus on substation refurbishment and new builds in power generation and storage.

Liam McLoughlin said: “I am delighted to be able to devote my time and efforts to companies that I believe can add significant value to projects globally. While Mac Projects and Mac Heavy Lift have had an intermittent presence on various projects in the UK and overseas, this year we will showcase our capabilities.”

In 2008, he moved to the bulk storage and handling company Portasilo, working his way up from engineering coordinator to senior team leader seven years later.

In 2015, he joined Heavy haulage and lifting company Collett & Son as a project manager, and was promoted to senior projects manager the following year and then head of projects, leaving for Baldwins in 2021 where he remained until joining Heavy Lift Projects & Port Services as director, he remains involved in the business and retains his fractional shareholding, while focusing on the new business.
