JLG showed an 86ft prototype telescopic boom lift, the 860SJ+, at Conexpo last week.
Detailed specifications were not available as: “they are likely to change before the new machine reaches production next year”.

We were told, however, that it will have a higher platform capacity and possibly a little more outreach, as well as “additional machine positioning options and increased operator flexibility”, whatever that is. One key differential we noticed is that it has an internal power track with space possibly created from dropping the chain telescope for the top section of the three section boom in favour of a wire rope extension system. The prototype was also equipped with a rotating jib option.
Other upgrades over the current 860SJ include improved access to service points and centralised maintenance components for troubleshooting. The machine also incorporates JLG’s ClearSky Smart Fleet IoT platform, providing fleet managers and operators with advanced connectivity for monitoring performance.
Boom lift product manager Sam Myers said: “It is exciting to give our customers a glimpse of a machine that will provide them with the performance, productivity, manoeuvrability and versatility required for demanding construction, steel erection and industrial maintenance applications.”
