Generational change at Riga

German rental company Riga Mainz has transferred 40 percent of its shares to Kai Langer as part of its succession process. He now runs the company alongside his father Uwe Langer.

Kai Lange, who returned to the family business in 2023 after several years in external management roles, is part of the fourth generation of the family and has been a member of the management team since his return.

The company said the move marks the second step in a structured generational transition and returns commercial responsibility to the family. That responsibility had previously carried out by Karl Reitz, who was associated with the company for almost four decades and played a significant role as managing director. The company said that Reitz has now handed over responsibility to Kai Langer but continues to advise the business.

Langer said: “My father's trust and shared responsibility for Riga Mainz mean a lot to me. Together, we are working to successfully lead the company into its 100th anniversary."

Riga Mainz said the new arrangement is part of its long term succession process at the shareholder level, adding that joint leadership, clear responsibilities and decision making are intended to provide stability and continuity, while new ideas and perspectives will support the company’s further development. A further 'milestone change 'in the succession process is planned for the company’s 100th anniversary in three years' time.

Riga is based in Mainz, south west Germany, and operates around 50 Liebherr All Terrain and crawler cranes alongside 40 Scheuerle SPMT axle lines and powerlift tower systems. The company also provides cranes, specialist transport and installation teams.
