1,500t spreader for LGH

International lifting gear rental company LGH has taken delivery of a 1,500 tonne MOD 800X/150 Modulift spreader beam, which it has nicknamed MedaMod.

The beam - launched in 2017 - has a maximum capacity of 1,500 tonnes at a 20 metre span. It is suitable for use on heavy lift vessels, pipe laying ships and offshore wind projects. The beam features trunnion ends, providing a shackle-free rigging arrangement for heavy loads.

Its first job will be a heavy load testing project after leaving LGH’s Antwerp workshop, with future applications expected to include offshore installation work, bridge construction, marine crane testing and industrial lifts.

LGH chief executive Andy Mault said: “The clients we work with are taking on larger and more technically demanding projects than ever before, so by investing in equipment like this modular spreader beam, we are strengthening our ability to provide flexible, safe and efficient solutions that will support the next generation of super heavy lift operations. It also represents our commitment to leading the global heavy lift rental market."

LGH was established in 1970 by Bill Parkinson in the UK. The company opened in the USA in 1990 and closed its operations in the UK in 2005 to focus on its North American expansion programme. In 2016, it returned to the UK and now operates from five locations in the country, along with one in the Netherlands, one in Belgium and two in Germany, plus around 20 branches in North America, and one it opened in France earlier this year. The company is still owned and managed by the Parkinson family. Its rental fleet currently includes spreader beams ranging from six to 1,500 tonnes as well as rigging equipment, such as shackles, slings, load cells, load links, winches and sheave blocks etc...
