Hiab is to acquire Canadian refuse collection vehicle manufacturer Labrie Environmental from Wynnchurch Capital and minority shareholders in a debt-free cash deal worth $1.04 billion. Hiab will fund the deal through Danske Bank and OP Corporate Bank
Labrie was established in 1971 and is based in Lévis, Quebec. It operates under three product brands: Labrie, Wittke and Leach, generating $491 million of revenues and a $71 million operating profit, with 1,200 employees across four production facilities in Canada, the USA and Mexico.
The Labrie product and service brands Hiab chief executive Scott Phillips said: “The acquisition of Labrie Environmental is a significant milestone in our strategy of profitable growth. Labrie is a market leader in an attractive and growing market in one of our four focus segments, waste and recycling. The acquisition also supports our ambitions to grow in North America and increase our services revenues. It also provides access to new resources and technologies for both companies. Importantly, the transaction is expected to strengthen cash generation immediately following closing while opening new avenues for growth”
One of each of the three products and makes Labrie chief executive Michael Eastabrook added: “Today is an important milestone for Labrie. By joining Hiab, we are gaining access to a comprehensive global platform that will accelerate our technology development and growth. I am incredibly proud of what we have built and excited for our next chapter."
The acquisition is expected to be completed during the third quarter, subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
