Polish maritime company Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) Gdynia has taken delivery of two 154 tonne electric Liebherr LHM 550 mobile harbour cranes.
The LHM 550 can handle its maximum 154 tonne capacity at a radius of 54 metres. It also features Liebherr's SmartGrab, an intelligent system that optimises grab filling rates in a self learning manner, helping increase the fill rate, while avoiding overloads. The new cranes join an existing Liebherr LHM 400 already working at the terminal.
The two LHM 550's arrive at the BCT terminal BCT chief executive Wojciech Szymulewicz said: “These new cranes give us added flexibility exactly where it matters most: at the interface between vessel, terminal and hinterland. They support our growth plans, fit our operational model and strengthen our ability to serve customers with consistency as the terminal enters its next phase of development.”
Liebherr-Rostock MD, Andreas Müller, added: “Our cooperation with BCT Gdynia is built on many years of trust, technical dialogue and shared standards in execution. Delivering this project on schedule and to the required specification is an important result, and it also sends a clear signal about what strong partnerships can achieve when both sides work with consistency and long-term intent.”

BCT is located at the Port of Gdynia is one of Poland’s main container terminals and has a capacity of more than a million 20-foot container equivalents. The terminal is located on pan-European transport corridors and rail routes, with road access and on-dock rail connections serving inland markets across Europe. BCT began container handling in 1979 and has been part of International Container Terminal Services. since 2003. Recent quay works have enabled the terminal to receive vessels up to 400 metres long.
