Ainscough who recently sold the Standish based business to a management buy out, said: "I am heavily involved in raising money for the Prince's Trust in the North West and we recently sold our crane business for £250 million. You have to put a little bit back. On the way to work Terry Wogan came on the radio talking about an evening with Katie Melua and Aled Jones. It seemed an opportunity too good to be missed."

“I can raise this money for Children in Need and then use the event to raise another £250,000 for the Prince's Trust. It will be at the Revolution in Manchester on a date yet to be fixed. I am in a privileged position and am glad to be able to help."

Ainscough fought for two hours with two other bidders to pip a man from Leicestershire at the post by £10,000 just as the show closed.
