Carlo Bacchiega RIP
We learnt just today that Carlo Bacchiega who established Instant Srl as the Italian affiliate of UpRight Inc in the mid 1960’s, passed away last year after suffering with Alzheimer’s disease for six years.
Bacchiega was managing a west end hotel in London when he was spotted by UpRight founder Wally Johnson. Johnson persuaded him to join UpRight and establish an Italian subsidiary selling alloy scaffold towers.
Bacchiega, keen to move back to his home town of Pavia, took up the offer and established Instant in the town, to the south of Milan. The company grew rapidly selling towers and large special access systems to blue chip Italian companies such as Enel.
The company later added a rental division and began selling UpRight scissor lifts as they were introduced in the early 1970’s He left the company when he retired in 1992.
Bacchiega was one of the industry’s more charming individuals, he will be remembered with fondness by many.
