Teupen in Damascus

We were recently sent pictures of two LEO 23 GT working on the façade of the Grand Mosque (also known as the Umayyad Mosque) in Damascus. The Mosque, originally a church, was constructed between 706 and 715 and is one of the oldest and largest in the world.

The Teupen lifts at the Mosque

Enquiries to Teupen revealed that the units, which appeared to be fairly new, had not been shipped to Syria by the manufacturer. We wondered therefore how they came to be working on this famous façade and who owned them.

The mosque occupies one of the holiest sites in the old city of Damascus and includes a shrine said to hold the head of John the Baptist. While Saladin is also buried there.
