Operator escapes from falling crane

An operator managed to jump clear as his crawler crane tipped over sideways last week on the north pier of Kilkeel harbour in Northern Ireland.

The fallen crane

The operator worked for contractor McLaughlin and Harvey who is in the process of constructing the new pier at the Harbour. The crane had just lifted a large Dolos stone when the crane somehow tipped over sideways sending the boom into the harbour.

If it has gone over the opposite side it would have come crashing down onto the lifeboat station.
