Boom buckles

The fully extended boom of a new 40 ton National Crane 18127 boom truck came crashing down in Washington Township, Indiana yesterday while working on a communications tower.

The crane which is reported as belonging to Nesco of Blufton, Indiana had a good deal of its 58 metres of total boom and jib out in order to remove radio equipment from the tower when the accident occurred.

There were no reports of any injuries from the accident which happened in the grounds of the school. The boom came down on a security fence surrounding the tower and a portable baseball batting cage.

Porter County Sheriff's deputies and the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, Shirley said. No further details were available.
