Forklift pulls scissor over

A passing forklift ran into a trailing extension cable providing power to the platform on a scissor lift in which two men were working on the massive MGM-Mirage casino site in Las Vegas earlier this week pulling it over.

The two workers, both ironworkers and employees of SME Steel and were said to be 22ft up at the time.
One of the men was suffering from a back injury, but neither injury was life threatening.

Vertikal Comment

Trailing leads from the platform are a serious risk, and although a case such as this one is rare, and would not normally cause a lift to tip. However trailing leads do apply side loads and create an additional hazard.

Care should be taken with the routing of cables, and normally should be wired through the lifts in the form of a built in power to the platform cable or on IC powered machines through a built in generator.
