Crane hits boom lifts

The lattice boom of a Link Belt crawler crane working on the steelwork for a new warehouse came crashing down onto the steelwork and the platform of a self-propelled aerial lift, killing the man in the platform in North Normal, Illinois, yesterday

The crane is to the right, the boom on top and three aerial lifts to the left. .


The accident occurred at the Wildwood Industries warehouse under construction near the town centre. In addition to the man who died other workers who under the falling boom were assessed for injuries at the scene.

The man who died was James 'Josh' Dawes,33, who has worked for Area Erectors for around 10 years. The cause of the incident was the failure of the boom hoist cable which had suffered internal strand faulires.
