Access apprentice scoops top award

An aerial lift and telehandler apprentice - Stephen Vicary of The Platform Company has won the UK’s National Construction College’s Apprentice of the year award.

Vicary, in his third year of his apprenticeship also won the Top Plant Mechanics - Access Platforms Apprentice award

Stephen Vicary accepts his Apprentice of the Year award from former boxing world champion Barry McGuigan


Vicary is based at The Platform Company’s Bristol branch and was one of sixteen apprentices recognised and presented with an award by former boxing world champion Barry McGuigan at the college’s annual ceremony last month.

After receiving the award, he said: “I have really enjoyed my course so far at the National Construction College, and look forward to continuing using the skills I have learnt so far. In a few weeks I’ll be starting my third and final year, and once that’s finished, beginning my full time career at The Platform Company armed with my NVQ advanced level 3 in Plant Mechanics.”

This years apprentice cup winners


James Watson, branch manager at the Bristol Depot said: “Steve’s achievements clearly show the talent and hunger for further education out there, and the need for the industry to grasp onto it. The Platform Company is continuing to invest and enlarge its apprentice programme alongside strong recognised Institutions such as the National Construction College.”
