Two big cranes for MacGregor

MacGregor the marine crane business owned by Cargotec, has won an order for the retrofit of two 150-tonne active heave compensated offshore cranes from Finnish shipowner Finstaship.

The cranes will be installed on the two multi-service vessels Botnica and Nordica, replacing two older cranes. The new cranes will be delivered in the second half of 2010 and will enable operation in deeper waters with better performance. The cranes will also be equipped with advanced features ensuring safe operation in harsh environment making Botnica and Nordica better suited for arctic offshore duties.

The cranes will be built at MacGregor’s facility in Kristiansand, Norway and will also include a crew training programme. The value of the order has not been disclosed, but Cargotec has said that MacGregor has already booked €31 million of new orders in the third quarter.
