Hiab introduces EN280 cranes

Hiab has launched its new MEWP attachment providing a fully EN280 compliant work platform, on four models of its XS range. The option allows the operator to fit the platform to the boom of the loader crane and then using a key switch the machine automatically converts to a truck mounted aerial work platform.

The key activates all of the necessary safety systems as well as limiting all speeds to those required by the EN280 standard.

Hiab has worked with Det Norske Veritas to provide third party compliance with the standard and all the relevant European directives. The first models available with the attachment are the XS 122, 144 and 166 HiPro/MEWP. Several other Hiab crane models are currently being engineered to accept the new attachment, .

Lars Rydahl, the man responsible for aerial work platform activities at Hiab said: “Now we’re busy delivering. In practice this means that the cranes are MEWP approved and ready for use as soon as they're fitted onto the truck.”.
