More new products from APEX

Apex got off to a good start today with a solid stream of visitors from all over Europe and further afield. Visitors were treated to a good number of new products from several manufacturers, with some North American based manufacturers unveiling new products in Europe rather than in the USA.

Aichi showed off five new products including two compact ‘elevator’ scissor lifts, with 15 and 19ft nominal elevated platform heights. The units have larger wheels than some competitors and are a tad long at 1.85 metres and a touch on the heavy side at 1.6 tonnes for the 19ft. However they are beautifully built and are likely to be as reliable as anything on the market.

The company also showed two midi products, with chassis widths of 1.15 metres, a 26ft and 32ft elevated platform height. Finally the fifth new model takes the superstructure form the company’s new 46ft self propelled boom lift and places it on its well proven crawler chassis. We understand that the machine is virtually indestructible following extensive testing.

Skyjacks new products the 46 and 51ft articulated booms are an interesting combination of new ideas and a conservative approach to ease itself into the market. The two new models which are identical apart from the upper boom and a repositioned counterweight, ‘look right’ and are very thoughtfully engineered.

The company plans to offer the new models at competitive prices while including some extra performance in terms of up and over reach, pure parallel lift on the riser and 360 degree continuous rotation which it believes will prove to be a reliability improvement in addition to an operational benefit.

Skyjacks new SJ12 and SJ16 while concept machines at the show will go into production within the year. The new models offer true zero turning radius along with a 600mm traversing deck and the elimination of slide out panels or side doors.

Sadly the internet connections from the exhibition floor is appalling unless you pay a kings ransom and even then it is slow. So posting photograph updates is posing a problem, here are a few to go on with though.
