Crane operators fined $50,000

Two New York City tower crane operators/erectors have been fined $25,000 each and had their licenses suspended following a fatal accident in September.

The city claims that brothers Christopher Van Duyne and James Van Duyne cut a guardrail on a bridge platform between the building and tower crane during the disassembly at a Manhattan job site.

Anthony Esposito, another crane erector died after falling 48 storeys from the platform after it tilted as he was walking across it.

The brothers were fined $25,000 each, while Christopher Van Duyne's operator license was suspended for eight months, his brother loses his license for six months.

The city has already suspended the license of another man who said he was taking a break when the accident happened.
