United Rentals down 23%

United Rentals, the world’s largest equipment rental company has reported first quarter revenues down 23 percent to $594 million. The company also posted a pre-tax loss of $33 million compared to a profit of $59 million for the same period in 2008.

Equipment rentals fell 22.5 percent to $448 million due to an 11.5 percent reduction in rates and a 2.4 percent fall in utilisation on a smaller overall fleet.
