Liebherr Sunderland scoops Queens’s award
Liebherr Sunderland, the UK based manufacturer of maritime cranes and cargo handling equipment, has won the Queens’ Award for Enterprise in International Trade, the UK’s top business performance award.
The International Trade category recognises companies that have demonstrated significant growth in overseas earnings and commercial success.
Liebherr Sunderland’s managing director Ralph Saelzer said: “We are delighted to receive this award, it is a great honour and one which we could not have achieved without the dedication of our skilled workforce.”

Liebherr Sunderland
Liebherr Sunderland was established in Sunderland, near Newcastle in 1989 to manufacture ship, port cranes, offshore cranes and mobile harbour cranes. More than 85 percent of its production is exported, with China, Singapore and South Korea currently accounting for more than half of its volumes. Exports have increased by more than 40 percent since 2005.
The Sunderland plant is part of the Liebherr Nenzing grouping, along with Liebherr Container Cranes, Ireland, and Liebherr-MCCtec, Rostock, Germany,
The formal presentation of the award will take place later in the year.
