The TH417 incorporates load sensing hydraulics for higher lifting and digging forces and the ability to operate all three boom functions simultaneously and proportionally.

A key improvement on the new model is the new cab, which CAT says is more spacious with better all-around visibility due to larger glazed area. Improved controls, incorporating single electro-hydraulic joystick controller. A transmission disconnect button on the joystick allows the operator to route engine power to the boom for faster boom operation.

A new dashboard features an interactive liquid crystal display that shows machine functions such as engine speed, machine speed, selected gear and direction of travel, and fuel level. A standard built-in start code device designed to reduce the risk of theft and unauthorised use..

A wide range of Cat work tools—forks, buckets, and lifting equipment—is available for the TH417 which features as manual IT interface quick coupler as standard, while an optional hydraulic quick coupler allows the operator to change work tools without leaving the cab.
