Cargotec exits off road forestry cranes

Cargotec, owner of Hiab has sold its off-road Loglift forestry crane business to Finnish based manufacturer Mesera Salo Oy and will focus its forestry crane efforts on the Jonsered and Loglift on-road cranes.

The Logift off-road forestry cranes are generally sold to manufacturers of specialist forestry equipment and tree harvesters for mounting on their own products and often sold under their own brand.

The transfer of the business and the relevant know-how will take place during October 2009. As part of the deal, some key staff from the off-road crane business will transfer to Mesera. The parties have agreed not to disclose the transaction value.

Mesera has been supplying Cargotec with key components for cranes for some time and since the beginning of September has been assembling its off-road and stationary cranes.

The two companies have agreed that Cargotec will continue to supply spare parts from the off road cranes. The off-road and stationary cranes will be marketed under the Mesera-Loglift brand for a certain period.

The move is part of Hiab’s strategy to focus its forestry efforts on on-road cranes . Hiab will continue to build and market its on-road forestry and recycling cranes under the Loglift and Jonsered brand names.
