Grove goes direct in Spain

Manitowoc has moved to a direct sales operation in Spain for Grove mobile cranes, mirroring an arrangement that it already has in place for the direct sales of Manitowoc crawler cranes, Grove cranes were previously sold in Spain by its long serving distributor, Madrid based Mopsa owned by Enrique Peralta.

The sales and service team which is locally based throughout Spain, will be managed by Orlando Mota, general manager for Iberia. Additional local staff will be recruited as demand dictates. Back office services for the Spanish market, such as administration, will be handled from Manitowoc’s regional office in Baltar, Portugal.

All warranties for Grove cranes sold by Mopsa remain valid and will be covered by Manitowoc Crane Care.

Frans Vanwinkel, senior vice president of sales and marketing for the European region, said: “Under the new setup, we will be closer to our customers and offer better support, which is an important factor especially under the current market conditions. The potential of the Spanish market means that a direct relationship between customers and manufacturer is instrumental to the success of both. The relationship with former Grove distributor Mopsa has worked well and we would like to thank them for their contribution. We now have the opportunity to take our mobile crane business to the next level here.”

Mota added:“Having a larger Crane Care team based around Spain means that we will be able to improve field service operations. The requirement for workshop repairs is declining, but customers can now call on the extensive services we offer.”

Manitowoc already sells its crawler cranes direct in Spain, while Potain tower cranes will continue to be sold by its long standing Spanish dealer Ibergruas.
