‘Take 2’ for Lasse Sunnergren

Lars Erik ‘Lasse’ Sunnergren a well known participant in the Swedish access world for nearly 35 years, is finally retiring, having failed to do so the first time round in 2007.

Lars Erik ‘Lasse’ Sunnergren

Sunnergren joined Vectur Aluminiumställningar, the Swedish sales subsidiary of UpRight, in 1982 and helped set up a warehouse operation in Gothenburg, selling both aerial lifts and scaffold products, largely to rental companies. The company was renamed Instant Sweden in 1990.

In 1993 UpRight sold its Swedish retail operations to its independently owed Zip-Up scaffold tower dealer Zip-Up Svenska of Stockholm, and Sunnergren moved with it, somewhat reluctantly at first – but he effectively became the Gothenburg branch manager and flourished within the new organisation.
He officially retired in August 2007, (See Sunnergren heads off) a party was held and off he went into the sunset, But within six months he was back working part time for Zip Up in Gothenburg and that has continued ever since.

A fair bit has changed since then, he is clearly almost 10 years older, and the company no longer sells UpRight powered access, but much remains the same – it is still a top UpRight scaffold tower distributor and now one of the leading Snorkel distributors selling many of the same products, just in orange and white, rather than blue.

However he is now planning retirement attempt number two at the end of June, following his 75th birthday on June 4th. The Vertikal.net team wish him every success which this latest attempt to stop working, but can’t help wondering if it might be a case of third time lucky?
