A tower crane collapsed in Ibiza yesterday as wind gusts reportedly reached high levels at the Playa d’en Bossa, a beach resort in the south of the island.
The crane owned by Gruas Jica, was working on a high rise development when strong wind gusts were reported, although the highest wind speeds reported were 31Mph but given this was on the coast and we are talking gusts, not sustained wind speeds?
Thankfully, no one was injured or hurt in the incident, in spite of the site having a few people still working, although the fact that it was late Friday afternoon probably helped.
Unusually, claims of sabotage to the tower bolts, at or close to the foundation base have been made. One statement said that they had been drilled through the centre, thus weakening them. But it sounds more conspiracy theory than fact, the police are investigating, and if it is so, they already know, as would those working on site.
