Waking the dead
A self-propelled boom lift being used to carry out work to a church in Roxwell, England, plunged into a grave, or the church crypt on Wednesday.

A rude awakening
Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident at the 16th century St Michael's Church in Roxwell, Essex. Essex County Fire & Rescue assisted with the recovery of the 6.5 tonne machine, using airbags and a winch.

The unit looks like a Haulotte HA16PXS? ex rental fleet...
As to who was disturbed in the incident we have no news.

Someone needs some IPAF training or a little physics and geology instruction, since their common sense appears to be lacking. Grass – underground voids a certainty… come on who was driving! Thank goodness they were not fully elevated or they might have been joining those that they disturbed.

I agree with Neil (Urban Access), a tracked spider would be a better option in this application; much lighter with much lower point loads.
MEWP users should be aware that the point loads from conventional 'cherry pickers' are much higher and less controllable than those from equivalent spider machines - perhaps Vertikal can assist in communicating this message as well as they have with the spreader pads campaign.

Not one of the best applications for a heavy self propelled boom! Would of thought that a tracked access platform, offering some of the lowest ground pressure ratings would of been far more appropriate?
