Lifterz acquires The Spiderlift Company
UK based rental company Lifterz has acquired the rental assets and goodwill of Ranger Equipment, which trades as ‘The Spiderlift Company.’
The decision by Ranger owner and managing director Steve Hadfield to exit the spider lift rental market will, he says, allow the company to concentrate on its growing spider lift and mini-crane sales business. Ranger is the UK distributor for CMC spider lifts and Jekko mini cranes.
The two parties have been working on the deal for some time and was the principle factor behind the February opening of Lifterz’ specialist products depot in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, just 12 miles from Spiderlift’s Chesterfield office.
The details of the deal have not been disclosed, although in addition to the purchase of the main rental fleet assets and goodwill, it includes the placement of an order for several new CMC spider lifts, but Ranger will retain the registered trademark ‘Spiderlift’ in the UK and Eire and apply it to product sales activities.

Malcolm Bowers of Lifterz (L) with Steve Hadfield of Ranger
Lifterz chairman, Malcolm Bowers said: “Steve’s team at Spiderlift has built up a strong reputation in the spider lift rental sector and is well known for quality of equipment and service, with a level of knowledge that is second to none. We are keen to build on this reputation and with added investment expect it to make the perfect springboard for our new specialist depot.”
Hadfield added “We took the decision to exit our activities in Spider lift rental so that we can concentrate on our dealership sales. We appreciate that continuing our rental activities was putting us into a competitive position with our existing and potential customers, which is something we did not want to do. Both CMC and Jekko are currently launching a number of new ‘rental friendly’ products and the customer up-take has been exceptional, so the time was right to take this decision.”
