Ken Jepson

Jepson started out in the formwork and concrete business in the 1960’s, in those days he owned three Boilot Petolat BP1000 cranes on a Leyland Octopus, Thames Trader and Guy Invincible chassis.

In 1968 he started Lorry Mounted Tower Cranes Ltd in Bow, then Isle of Dogs and finally ending up in Marshgate Lane Stratford. Building up a fleet of around 10 Munster mobile self erecting tower cranes and later founded on a cabin rental company Tower Portables.

He ignored everyone’s advice and purchased a site in the Isle of Dogs at a time when everyone was leaving the area. He lucked out when the site was later purchased by the Daily Telegraph in one of the early developments of Canary Wharf. It seems that he had a lucky streak and more importantly spotted trends well before others, even if by accident more than judgement.

He died just one day short of his 81st birthday, the funeral will be held at Corbets Tey Crematorium on Thursday 13th May at 14.40.
